Compact cities represent the future of sustainable urban planning as they focus on higher housing density, more efficient mobility and rational use of resources. In this context, street lighting plays a key role.


Compact Cities require advanced technological solutions to optimize the management of urban services and reduce environmental impact. Public lighting, in particular, represents an area of great potential for energy efficiency and emission reduction.


Thanks to IoT and data analytics, it is possible to create smart lighting systems that can monitor the status of installations in real time, detect any faults, and optimize energy consumption, thus reducing operating costs.


One of our clients chose to embrace this vision, implementing an innovative public lighting management system based on our IoT platform OnSystem: this company relied on our Ecosystem to manage various public lighting networks.

Our two solutions are based on centralized control systems, where the OnSystem IoT platform fully manages data collection, analysis, and monitoring, and on point-to-point control, where data is collected by the IoT platform and then transferred to Wi4B for deeper analysis.


The project is based on a combination of cutting-edge technologies:

  • SENECA Z-LTE devices: these devices play a key role in data collection and transmission.

  • OnSystem IoT platform: our IoT platform enables the collection, processing and visualization of data from the devices, providing a complete view of the state of the system.

  • MQTT protocol: this lightweight and flexible protocol ensures efficient communication between devices and the platform.

  • Wi4B Plugin: allows integration with the Wi4B cloud platform for more advanced data management.
